In Kiev, Poroshenko lost presents from the United States: Ukraine: Former USSR: Lenta.ru

The administration of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Foundation of Presidents of Ukraine do not know where the gifts that the head of state received from the White House are. This is reported by the Ukrainian service "Radio Liberty".

According to the newspaper, at the inauguration of Poroshenko in June 2014, Vice President of the United States Joe Biden presented him with a sculpture of an eagle made of stainless steel, which is estimated at $ 600. Another gift - a nominal dish worth $ 700 - was presented to the Ukrainian leader by American President Barack Obama during Poroshenko’s visit to the USA in September 2014.

In response to a request from the editorial office, the Presidential Administration of Ukraine sent a list of gifts received by Poroshenko as president, in which these items are missing. The head of the Presidential Fund of Ukraine, Lyudmila Galagan, also said that they have neither a plate nor an eagle sculpture. The editors sent another request to Poroshenko’s name, but did not receive a response.

As explained by the lawyer of the public organization “Center for Countering Corruption,” Vitaly Tsokur, the head of state must, within a month after receiving the presents, hand them over to the presidential administration, from where they will be sent to the Foundation of Presidents of Ukraine.

Lawyers noted that in 2014, officials could receive gifts at the price of no more than 625 hryvnia ($ 50 at the rate of Ukrainian banks in 2014). The total value of all gifts for the year was 1218 hryvnia ($ 95 at the same rate), while two presentations from the White House in the amount were worth $ 1,300. If the president receives a gift that is higher than the minimum, this can be regarded as a bribe. Consider such incidents should the National Anti-Corruption Agency.

The publication noted that, unlike other countries, on the official website of the President of Ukraine do not publish data on gifts received by the head of state, and also do not evaluate their value. Journalists cited as an example a necklace that Poroshenko presented to the British Prime Minister Teresa May in 2017. Decoration valued at 160 pounds, after which May bought it at their own expense. This information can be found on the official website of the British government.
